Alan, I agree totally.  This is the real strength of Ubuntu - even a
Windows user can make it work!

 So they were not confident enough to even attempt it, they have been
 using only ubuntu for a couple of years and one had even gone into
 John Lewes (Reading) asking for Ubuntu (another story).

Sounds like a story I'd love to hear.  If not on the list, please let me
hear it.

There was an interesting follow-on some long time later when the same department was asked about a particular printer which was of interest - again, specifically for use with Ubuntu not Windows. On that occasion the staff member quickly said they did not know, and went to get advice from a senior person, who came and confirmed he did not have that information, although it might or might not work. Not a perfect situation but a whole lot more reasonable than the original stance. It seemed as if there had been some elementary but significant staff training in the meantime.
