Yes, you're right I didn't realise. I noticed the mute option doesn't appear in the list when I've opened the email, and I have to go back to the inbox to mute the conversation which is a bit of a pain. The fact that you can't mute messages after you've applied a filter seems to restrict functionality and make no sense.
