Hi, sorry to take so long to answer, been a bit busy. Its not the first time I have installed Ubuntu. I have installed 8.04 on a Windows XP machine, for dual boot. It isnt a recognised company hardware, its made by a company called Hi-Grade. As far as doing a Ctrl+Alt+1 I cant do that because it freezes, the minute the desktop tries to show and I have to hit the start button to restart the laptop. I have the two you mentioned, plus https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-tweak/+question/45800 https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-tweak/+question/45858 https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+question/47012 from what I can see, none of which had any answers or questions asked. If I'm wrong I apologise. I cant do anything with any of the questions anymore, because I cant use Ubuntu on my laptop now, as its not working since the upgrade. Hope that helps. John. Its the first time I've posted on here.I tried to install 8.10 on my laptop but when the desktop tried to open, it sticks, and it wont start. I wondered if it was a problem with my laptop or if it was another problem. Can any body help please. Thank you. John. What make/model is your laptop? (These problems are often hardware related.) Is this the first time you have installed Ubuntu on it? Or was it an upgrade? If not an upgrade, how did you install it? If you do Ctrl-Alt-1, do you get a console? It would be a good idea to post this (with the sort of details above) on https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu Tony |
