I knew an engineer about 30 years ago who once said to me that he much preferred dealing with machines and equipment because he could figure why they did what they did, but he could not do the same with people. I was young and naive then and didn;t really understand what he meant at the time, but I think I do now. In general people are unfathomable! But as you say, that makes life interesting and exciting if at times frustrating!
