You can always install multiple desktops, and choose the one you want to
use at the Display Manager after the machine boots. But I have never
tried this with SDDM.
But I have had problems doing this in the past with strange things
happening. You really need to know what you are doing.
I am curious. What is so important about using XFCE?

Hi Joseph,
Erich already answered this question in another thread.
If you want KDE, just install the latest Ubuntu Studio (22.04).
If you want XFCE, then install Xubuntu 22.04, and then install the
Ubuntu Studio packages as described here:
https://ubuntustudio.org/ubuntu-studio-installer/
If you want Gnome, then install the standard Ubuntu and use the
same ubuntu-studio-installer. I can confirm that this works, as I
use this on one of my machines.
This should work for any other flavor of Ubuntu (Lubuntu, Ubuntu
Budgie, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu MATE) as well.
Regards,
Ross
