Hi Robie, sorry for taking so long to get back to you. If Xenial is only going to ship PHP7, then I'm happy to drop the patch entirely, as PHP7 already includes this change.
If Xenial is shipping PHP5 and PHP7, I would be happy if the patch could be applied to PHP5 on Xenial. Either way, while a backport would be nice, I agree that it's difficult to justify it on the Stable guidelines, so I'm happy for this just to go to Xenial.
