Hi all,
My name is Gerry Carr and I am the new Senior Marketing Manager for
Canonical. I have been reading through some of the archives on what you
guys have been up to and I am really looking forward to us being able to
work together in the future.
My background is working in corporate marketing for tech companies like
Sage and IONA covering things like events, campaigns, PR, advertising,
lead gen, branding and positioning. One thing I am looking forward to is
working on more guerilla type marketing with your help.
Right now though I need some help on the Ubuntu Live
<http://www.ubuntulive.com/> Event in July. We need to get a message
out to the Ubuntu Forums probably through Ubuntu-announce but I am open
to advice on where it ought to go.
It's critical that we have a successful launch show for this event. We
are working closely with O'Reilly the organisers on this and our
commitment to them is that we publicise this event to the ubuntu
community. I need your help to make sure that the communication is
appropriate and effective.

My deadline to get this out is 1300 UTC Friday May 11. what i would love
to get to you guys is help with
a) what is the best channel to approach the community
b) who is best sending this communication
c) is the wording appropriate for a community communication
d) can anyone suggest a better draft for sending
e) going forward, what do the marketing team feel are appropriate and
non-approriate communication to the community and through which channels?
I think if we can start and complete this minor project this week and
get a feel for how we might work together we can move to discuss how I
might be able to help your efforts and vice versa from next week.
i will be tracking the marketing list and am IRC subscribed should we
perfer to do it this way or of course contact me directly.
