JFTR, that sounds a lot like the KDE target audience. My experience with seeing other long term Gnome users switch is that they are initially overwhelmed by the number of options and the customability, but once they get over trying to tweak everything, just because they can, and take a little time to get to know the environment and what works for them, it often turns out pretty good.
