Personally, a survey that nobody has access to from a 3rd party who is initiating the change doesn't hold much weight with me. Especially because its an OEM... The OSX example is a solid argument. Information from non-biased 1st time linux users also seems like a good place for feedback as well. Maybe the answer here is not "Trust us, we know" but more of "Lets see and collect stats so we can make a more educated decision in the next release" I don't see this getting resolved until we can collect stats of our own to prove a direction to move in.
