I restarted the computer to give a clean slate, and checked to see how many processes were running. There was only 1 gvfs-fuse-daemon. Then, I proceeded to run down the list of things I remembered doing with my computer:
*I started Firefox; still only 1 process. *I started Synaptic, as I had been using it before I restarted, and still only 1 process. I installed a package, and there was still only 1 process. *I started AbiWord 2.6.x series, which I had installed from a Launchpad PPA. I checked again, and still only 1 process. *I started Gnumeric, which I installed from the repositories, and still only 1 process. *I then tested a screensaver preview; still only 1 process. To be honest, I cannot figure out how to reproduce this bug. I will keep an eye on it, and if I find the problem again, I'll respond to this thread, but for now, there is only 1 process.
