Leann, 4&5 September Alpha-5 date is now in my diary.

For Your Information, despite dismissive comment that I should use VMware to
run
Linux distros, I still use 'real' dual-boot installation with WinXP from which
I can run
Kurt Fitzner's SelfImage-121 to create and very quickly restore image
'snapshots'.

Despite other exhortations to totally install Linux in logical drives within
extended
partitions, I manually install root (and home) in a primary, bootable
partition, but
with linux-swap in a logical drive within an extended partition on the same
drive.

Meanwhile, although I am still re-organizing my PCs after the failure of my
old PC,
I have quickly tried LiveCD Alpha-4 sessions on my A and B rigs (as below)

[A] - ASUS-EN8500GTS SATA-320+80GB G31MX-S2 2.6GHz E2160 2Gram
(1400x1050 display and 32-bit triple-boot with WinXP and Vista Home Premium)
[B] - 384M-XFX8800GS SATA-320+500GB G31MX-S2 2.8GHz E4600 2Gram
(1920x1200 display and 32-bit dual boot with WinXP)

As briefly reported against Bug Report #252174 the CD had been corrupted by
Ubuntu 8.04.1 Brasero, but using a fresh copy created by WinXP/Nero7, I have
found Alpha-4 to be very slow to load on my B-rig whilst displaying a blank
screen,
with only CD and drive light action indicating that there's anything going on,
followed
by a very long period of apparent inactivity, all this only occurring with
boot from cold.
My B-rig then fairly promptly produces a gvsd-trash error report, apparently
of no
interest to Andrew Conkling, whereas my A-rig displays a new cascading display
during load and then loads without any gvsd-trash error.

Please note that Shut Down doesn't operate with either rig, so I won't bother
trying
out an actual install until Alpha-5. Meanwhile, I restore and use Mint4,
Mint5 or
Ubuntu 8.04.1 with WinXP and occasionally 'dabble' with the much-improved Vista,
whilst listening to Sound Juicer created MP3s played through Amarok !
