I have this problem too. Specs: Acer Ferrari 4005 Turion 64 2ghz 1gigRAM x700mobility radeon Scree res 1650x1080 Starts up, see loading screen, then everything dies, though I hear sound.
Does this for safe mode and regular mode. Suspect that specifying a custom boot resolution isn't working properly.
