Similar problem here on a Dell D610 notebook. After the update
yesterday the system does not boot the new kernel. The GRUB error
message is:

===
Error 18: Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS
Press any key to continue...
===

GRUB doesn't even offer an old/working kernel as a fallback solution.
I'm writing this bug report on a friend's machine.
