I can confirm that this still occurs even with 8.04.1: 1. Fully upgraded/updated Gutsy (Gnome desktop) machine as of today Aug 5, 2008 2. Insert 8.04.1 Alternate CD and select the upgrade option on the popup window 3. Allow it to fetch updates from the network in addition to the CD 4. Upgrade proceeds until it reaches the Generating locales... en_AU.UTF-8... 5. Open a terminal window and kill locale... it's continuing to upgrade albeit with misconfigured packages that will need to be corrected using the workarounds listed in this bug report.
