I have also had this problem (makes Gutsy -> Hardy a pain), with exactly the same symptoms and solution.
As it seems that the problem is well documented, and there is a work-around, why is this bug still marked "Incomplete" ? Is there any file one of us can add to this bug report to help reproduce it ?
