Hey, Initially I thought it was because of the graphics driver problem. But Now it is happening all the time. Do you have any log entries made when you try and shutdown the computer ?
I switched to Console and did a tail -f /var/log/*, returned to gnome and selected restart. I only encountered one message. As posted above. What hardware do you have in your computer? Perhaps we should post lspci?
