@jbg7474: Maybe bug #250891 does match your description better? Other
than with this bug here, it has a different error message displayed in
the logs, and you even can use ALT-Fn to switch to an alternate console
(which is impossible here). You may want to check your
/var/log/Xorg.?.log (replace the "?" by any digit you find a file for)
to check the error displayed - the error should be at its very end. Keep
in mind the file is rotated: So after a logout with that blank screen,
and a successful restart after that, you should investigate Xorg.1.log
to find out.
