ok, I just completed making adjustments to the .desktop files and I seem
to have had success looking at the system resource monitor(the CPU usage
)......grrr, but when I re-run the benchmark test as described in the
wiki link above to compare old results with new results, it looks like
the .desktop files are completely ignored for this benchmark.

"for s in /usr/lib/xscreensaver/*; do echo $s; $s & k=$! ; sleep 30; ps
hu $k >> savers-cpu.log ; kill $k; wait; done"

how does that line need to be changed to benchmark the actual real world
results of making changes to the .desktop files to make the benchmark
use the new values that will actually be used while the screensavers are
running ? I want to be able to post results of what affects my changes
had so others can compare.......in short, I want to be able to compare
apples to apples, not apples to oranges.
