Hi,

according to the above mentioned thread you can push the vese driver
into the LCD's native resolution by manually editing the xorg.conf so it
looks like this:

Section "Monitor"
# Leave other options in tact
    HorizSync 28-72
    VertRefresh 43-60
EndSection

This used to d othe trick for me. But now I'm getting strange vertical
black lines in the upper screan area. The strange thing is that they
vanish once I switch to a framebuffer console and back. (Alt+F1,
Alt+F7). That's rather annoying.
