I just tried it by saving an imgboard.html page from 4chan to my computer and commenting out any lines that contained Japanese characters, (notably, the このサイトについて - 翻訳 link at the top of the page, which isn't visible due to the ghosting) and the ghosting didn't happen, whereas it did happen with the locally stored copy of imgboard.html before I edited it. This is with Firefox 3.0 rc1 on Hardy 64-bit.
