I'm not sure if it helps but I am on Hardy running 2.0.0.14 and not only does it not check mail unless you click get mail, it will not run the "forward mail to address" filter I have set up. It will star the message, which is one of the other actions on the same filter, but won't forward unless I click on apply filter to folder.
