I tried booting into the new kernel, but unfortunately suspend was missing from the list of options. Lots of other stuff was broken too (for instance: intermittent USB, no wireless LAN, no CPU frequency scaling, video resolution stuck at 800x600), so I've had to move back to the old kernel.
