Confirmed. I installed keyboard 'de' and everything was fine, until I needed nvidia-xconfig somehow to detect the nvidia driver. Then the keyboard was messed up. I haven't looked at the source code, but it seems, the previous settings are not taken into consideration when running nvidia-xconfig.
