Okay, I tested with another (just recently created) test user. It behaves exactly the same. So did Compiz. But I tested Compiz two hours ago, so I'm not sure anymore and I'm going to double check it to be sure.
But I think I am able to reproduce, when the pasting to other apps works and when not. If you select the text in gedit and THEN activate the "Edit mode", the pasting DOESN'T WORK. If you select the text in gedit in when the lyrics window is in "edit mode", pasting WORKS. If you select the text in the lyrics window, pasting into gedit WORKS, no matter whether in "edit mode" or not. I'm still investigating if there are certain circumstances under which copying and pasting works in the lyrics window.
