I'm experiencing the same thing. 3ware IO used to be fine on feisty 2.6.19 series, with a xen kernel even.
Now I'm on hardy server, tried both 386 and amd64 version. 2.6.24-16-server, and disk IO is killing me. Very noticable with KVM, but does not appear to be specific to virtualization...but rather just a kernel driver issue? Write IO is killing me.
