That page does not apply to this issue.

I am not having a sound bug. My sound is working fine. I can play CD's,
DVD's, and listen to mp3's and .ogg files without any issues. The volume
controls are working fine as is my sound card.

The only issue is that the panel icon of the speak shows muted when
nothing is muted. Unmuting it does nothing, muting it does nothing. If I
click it, it shows a slider. The slider does nothing. My sound continues
unabated regardless of whether it is muted or not and regardless of the
slider working or not.

Attached is a screen shot. Look in the upper right hand corner. See the
little red circle/slash indicating that sound is muted? Well, right now,
I am listening to an mp3 full blast.
