output of mount | grep sda3:

 mount | grep sda3
/dev/sda3 on /home type ext3 (rw,relatime)

I have attached the term.log file.
My home partition was still intact on logging in but the Documents, Public,
Music, and Pictures folders were all empty. I only noticed that files were
missing when I went to copy some firmware downloads over to my winblows machine.

Let me know if you need any other files or command output

*note any other folders in my /home/hippy/ dir were intact with all their
original contents. The only folders affected were the "default" folders in my
home dir.
also, settings for evolution were wiped. not sure if this was from the updates
or what. but all the email accounts are gone and their respective email
messages. the panel and desktop were reverted back to default settings as well.
not sure what else at this point. been too aggravated to dig around much.
