Yes. it was an upgrade from a gutsy installation (bootable cd version, not alternate) to hardy beta. The steps are very simple... I wrote "update-manager -d" in the "Run Application" tool. During the upgrade I got a few errors about the packages I mentioned and the update-manager told me that it's attempting a recover or rollback or something like that. It didn't take much time though so I think it didn't roll back. At the end the u-m reconfigured the problematic packages and restarted the computer. Right now everything runs fine. Is there a way to check what is the current status of the upgrade? thanks.
