Public bug reported: I have an ATI Mobility X700, which works fine (in both 2D and 3D mode) with the free 'radeon' driver (I used it in gutsy, and it worked before I did a reinstall). But for some reason, gnome-appearance-properties wants to force me to install the non-free fglrx driver.
This is not desirable for several reasons: I'd like my machine to use as much free software as possible, and fglrx tends to be a bit less stable (in my experience). So please, could you re-enable the "desktop effects" button(s) for my video card _without_ it requiring fglrx? lspci-output for my video card: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X700 (PCIE) 01:00.0 0300: 1002:5653 (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: 103c:0940 Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 0, Cache Line Size: 64 bytes Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 16 Region 0: Memory at c0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Region 1: I/O ports at 2000 [size=256] Region 2: Memory at c8800000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] [virtual] Expansion ROM at c8820000 [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1+ D2+ AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot-,D3cold-) Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME- Capabilities: [58] Express Endpoint IRQ 0 Device: Supported: MaxPayload 128 bytes, PhantFunc 0, ExtTag+ Device: Latency L0s <256ns, L1 <4us Device: AtnBtn- AtnInd- PwrInd- Device: Errors: Correctable- Non-Fatal- Fatal- Unsupported- Device: RlxdOrd+ ExtTag- PhantFunc- AuxPwr- NoSnoop+ Device: MaxPayload 128 bytes, MaxReadReq 128 bytes Link: Supported Speed 2.5Gb/s, Width x16, ASPM L0s L1, Port 0 Link: Latency L0s <256ns, L1 <2us Link: ASPM Disabled RCB 64 bytes CommClk+ ExtSynch- Link: Speed 2.5Gb/s, Width x16 Capabilities: [80] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable- Address: 0000000000000000 Data: 0000 ** Affects: control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-appearance-properties forces me to install fglrx for desktop effects, while they work fine with the free driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212117 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
