"Backports" is the repository of software that is "backported" (ie,
wherein a new software package is built to run on an old release), but
it is only supported by the community, and does not receive the same
bugfixes or security updates that Canonical provides for main and
restricted. Nonetheless, if the backported package came from universe,
then that should be of no concern. (And mscore did).

You can enable it in the Software Sources
(System->Administration->Software Sources) applet: on my Ubuntu Hardy
system, I switch to the Updates tab and check the "Unsupported updates
(hardy-backports)" box. It might be different on Gutsy; I'm not sure.

Then, once you have enabled that, you can install the package "mscore"
in the normal way.

(But you'll still have to download your own SoundFont)
