Regarding rasta_freak's message, I did a re-install to then Update to kernel 2.6.24-12-generic which restored sound and vision. As to temperatures, Panel Weather Reports working OK and EnvyNG-conferred GPU Thermal Monitor is also fine, otherwise I don't know what he's referring to. My outstanding problems appear to be with audio-visual multi-tasking, which is great in Gutsy, but flakey in Hardy Alpha-6.
