The big difference that I am seeing between the 2 versions is that the KDE 3 version is using .menu files whereas the KDE 4 version is using .desktop files. I am not 100% on how Gnome reacts with the .menu files, but still, we need to look into this as KDE 3 isn't going anywhere any time soon. Thanks for the quick comment!
