IT WORKS!!! IT WORKS!!! The solution of Jan Rathmann works on Hardy 64bit with nVidia 8500!
1) added vga16fb, fbcon and vesafb to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules 2) outcommented the blacklisted vesafb and vga16fb in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer 3) added "vga=795" (1280x1024) to the kernel options in /boot/grub/menu.lst (and "splash" option if not present) 4) modified setting usplash resolution to the same value in /etc/usplash.conf (xres=1280 and Yres=1024) 5) sudo update-initramfs -u Now usplash wors perfectly!
