Using ssldump, I see that it looks like the TLS/SSL communication between the Client and Server are fine. I am simply not getting the password popup message to supply my NDS password. Using iprntcmd works fine but the gui client does not. Do you have any suggestions as to where to go from here? It does not look like a CUPS problem at all, hence not yours either. Could this be X security blocking the popup?
