Hello, **Additional diagnostic data — ASRock Radeon RX 9060 XT (1002:7590)**
I would like to contribute additional diagnostic information concerning the suspected AMD firmware regression. **Hardware and software configuration** - Distribution: Linux Mint 22.3 (Ubuntu 24.04 base) - GPU: ASRock Radeon RX 9060 XT, 8 GB - PCI ID: `1002:7590`, subsystem `1849:5410`, revision `C0` - VBIOS: `113-APM8248-102` - Kernel: `7.0.0-42-generic` - Graphics driver: `amdgpu 3.64.0` - Mesa: `25.2.8` - Cinnamon: `6.6.9` - AMD firmware package: `20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu3.3` **Symptoms and investigation** I previously experienced a black screen with a visible mouse cursor following system updates. Switching to a TTY was possible. After reinstalling Linux Mint, I updated the graphics stack incrementally, rebooting between stages. Cinnamon, Muffin, CJS, libdrm, Mesa, and Xorg were updated successfully. I then installed AMD firmware package `0ubuntu3.3` and confirmed that the system booted successfully with kernel `6.14.0-37-generic`. I subsequently upgraded to kernel `7.0.0-42-generic` while keeping AMD firmware package `0ubuntu3.3`. This configuration also boots successfully, with `amdgpu` active and without `nomodeset`. **Working GPU initialization logs** ```text amdgpu 0000:08:00.0: [drm] ATOM BIOS: 113-APM8248-102 amdgpu 0000:08:00.0: [drm] Loading DMUB firmware via PSP: version=0x0A000800 amdgpu 0000:08:00.0: smu fw version = 0x00664300 (102.67.0) amdgpu 0000:08:00.0: SMU is initialized successfully! amdgpu 0000:08:00.0: [drm] Display Core v3.2.369 initialized on DCN 4.0.1 amdgpu 0000:08:00.0: [drm] DMUB hardware initialized: version=0x0A000800 [drm] Initialized amdgpu 3.64.0 for 0000:08:00.0 on minor 1 ``` **Known-working DMCUB firmware** File: `/lib/firmware/amdgpu/dcn_4_0_1_dmcub.bin.zst` SHA-256: `ecd8d2b8c2ccd5cc58cde4e18f5987b7a125797494cd02ccdb70ea654b560f61` This is the checksum of the compressed firmware file installed with package `0ubuntu3.3`. **Limitations** The original failing boot logs are no longer available following the system reinstallation. Firmware package `0ubuntu3.4` has not been retested in isolation with this exact working configuration, so I cannot conclusively attribute the original black screen to that package. Nevertheless, the results establish a known-working baseline for this GPU using kernel `7.0.0-42` and firmware package `0ubuntu3.3`. I have placed `linux-firmware-amd-graphics` on hold at `0ubuntu3.3` pending a confirmed fix. I hope these details help with the investigation. I can provide additional diagnostic information if needed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2173041 Title: black screen after upgrading linux-firmware-amd-graphics to 0ubuntu3.4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware-amd-graphics/+bug/2173041/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
