Still reproducible on 7.0.0-38-generic (Ubuntu 26.04, BIOS GP115 03/24/2026, no
newer firmware on LVFS).
Internal speakers still have no playback PCM; only HDMI (card0) and
acp-pdm-mach DMIC (card1) are present.
Speakers work fine under Windows on the same machine (dual boot), so the
hardware is OK.
Correction to my original analysis: the speaker path looks like
SoundWire, not NAU8821 over I2S.
ACPI children of the ACP device (\_SB_.PCI0.GPPA.ACP_, 04:00.5 [1022:15e2]):
I2SC _ADR 0x3 (no codec device declared under it)
PDMC _ADR 0x2
SDWC _ADR 0x5
SWM0
SWM1
SW21 _ADR 0x000030025d072201
SDWS _ADR 0x6, HDA0, BTSC, USBS
SW21 _ADR decodes to mfr 0x025d (Realtek), part 0x0722, class 0x01 (SDCA),
i.e. a Realtek RT722 SDCA codec on the ACP 7.0 SoundWire controller.
No I2C/I2S codec (e.g. NVTN2020 / NAU8821) is enumerated in ACPI.
Current driver state on 7.0.0-38:
- 04:00.5 is bound to snd_acp_pci (legacy ACP), which sets up acp-pdm-mach
only;
snd_soc_nau8821 is loaded by snd_acp_mach but has nothing to attach to.
- snd_pci_ps, soundwire_amd and snd_sof_amd_acp70 are loaded but unused.
- /sys/bus/soundwire/devices is empty (no SoundWire peripherals enumerated).
- Kernel config already has CONFIG_SOUNDWIRE_AMD=m, CONFIG_SND_SOC_AMD_PS=m,
CONFIG_SND_SOC_SOF_AMD_ACP70=m and CONFIG_SND_SOC_RT722_SDCA_SDW=m.
So the likely fix is getting this platform onto the ACP70 SoundWire path
(snd_pci_ps or SOF) with an RT722 machine/match entry for this DMI
(LGElectronics 16UD55U-GX5JK / board 16U55U), rather than an I2S NAU8821 quirk.
I am happy to test patches or test kernels on this machine and provide
any further logs.
