Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 26.04
Evince package: 49~alpha-2ubuntu2.1

Opening a local PDF from a terminal:
    evince "$PWD/myfile.pdf"

Pressing Ctrl+S displays:
The folder contents could not be displayed.
    Operation not supported.

The save dialog defaults to $HOME rather than the document's directory.

The terminal reports GLib critical errors beginning with:
g_variant_new_bytestring: assertion 'string != NULL' failed

The problem persists with:
- An absolute path to the document filename.
- GIO_USE_VFS=local.
- GDK_DEBUG=no-portals GIO_USE_VFS=local.
- The Evince AppArmor profile unloaded.

Bypassing the portal removes the terminal errors but not the folder-display
failure. Ctrl+P correctly defaults to ~/Documents.
