I'm running 'vanilla-gnome-desktop' and ran into this bug. I ended up installing 'ubuntu-session', which fixed the issue for me while still running gdm3 51.0-0ubuntu1. However, perhaps the "correct" solution would've been this proposed gdm3 51.0-0ubuntu1.1 package?
