Public bug reported:

Ptyxis is the default terminal in Ubuntu 26.04, chosen through xdg-
terminal-exec. Tooling built on xdg-terminal-exec can open a command in
whichever terminal is the default, but bringing the user back to the tab
where that command already runs, for example when they click a
notification about it, needs a handle for the tab. GNOME Terminal, the
default before Ptyxis, exports one to every process it starts as
GNOME_TERMINAL_SCREEN. Ptyxis has the matching action, focus-tab-by-
uuid, reachable over D-Bus, but a process in a Ptyxis tab cannot learn
its tab's UUID, so such tooling cannot return to a Ptyxis tab.

I proposed a small upstream change that exports the UUID as
PTYXIS_TAB_UUID in the environment of the command each tab runs, next to
the existing PTYXIS_PROFILE, and documents it in ptyxis(1). I built it
on Ubuntu 26.04 against upstream main and checked over D-Bus that
passing the value exported to one tab to focus-tab-by-uuid moved
keyboard focus to that tab. Upstream review may take a while (see the
maintainer's note on the issue), so I am reporting it here in case you
would like to carry it as a patch, the way Treat-new-window-plus-
command-as-single-terminal-mode.patch is carried. It is a new feature,
so it would be for the development release, entirely at your discretion.
