On 2026-09-23 I observed a new symptom while the machine was displaying a screen awaiting login: the GNOME interface stopped responding to keyboard and mouse input, but the play/pause button on my Bluetooth headset still worked and could start playback. I restarted the machine because I could not recover the graphical session.
In the affected boot (Ubuntu 26.04.1, GNOME Shell 50.1, Wayland, kernel `7.0.0-31-generic`, NVIDIA open driver 595.91.07), GNOME Shell PID 6494 requested `fprintd` at 09:58:55. At 09:59:11, `at-spi2-registryd` reported that PID 6494 was unresponsive; at 09:59:25, GNOME components timed out waiting for its idle monitor. Other system activity continued afterward. I found no GPU hang or kernel blocked-task message in this incident window. The proximity of `fprintd` activation is only a timing observation, not a confirmed cause. The attached report includes the versions, log excerpts, and limits of the evidence.
