On 2026-09-22, my Dell G15 5530 running Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, kernel 7.0.0-31-generic, GNOME Wayland, and nvidia-driver-595-open 595.91.07 became unresponsive after a utility power outage. The battery took over normally. I eventually had to restart the laptop using the physical power button. The previous boot’s journal shows NVIDIA NVRM assertions and a GNOME Shell KMS thread blocked in the NVIDIA modesetting path. The kernel reported the same blockage repeatedly for at least 20 minutes. These logs strongly implicate the graphics path, but they do not establish whether the power outage caused the freeze or identify the underlying defect.
