Thanks for getting back to me - I checked the version number of the drivers i
got from the LSI
website and

#define MPT_LINUX_VERSION_COMMON        "4.00.05.00"

I downloaded it here

http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/products_home/standard_product_ics/sas_ics/lsisas1068/index.html?remote=1&locale=EN

The version as far as i can tell in the fiesty edition seems to be

#define MPT_LINUX_VERSION_COMMON        "3.04.03"

With regard the the Hosting Provider they have been harping on about the
hardware not being fully supported by HP, its all just a bunch of
bureaucracy as far as i am concerned, and i guess we will switch when
the time to renew comes in a couple of months.

in the meantime , a solution would be a great thing.

(This might sound like a dumb question) Is there anyway to find out
whether the driver is likely to cause any problems without rebooting ?

In terms of other people experiencing problems like this it seems like its to
do with write cacheing
- this was the instructions i followed. But for me it didnt really do the job /
im not sure whether
or not enabling write cacheing was even successful due to the errors reported
(original post).
