Hi Bagus,
Thank you for providing the detailed crash logs. The kernelcrash1.txt
attachment with both oops traces is incredibly helpful — both crashes
occur in the same Btrfs delayed-reference code path
(btrfs_select_ref_head -> btrfs_delayed_ref_lock) under the heavy
concurrent write workloads you described from VictoriaMetrics and
Docker.
Before we can escalate this or dig deeper into a potential patch, we
need to rule out issues already resolved in the stable tree. Your
initial report states you are running 6.17.0-20-generic, and your crash
log captures an oops on 6.17.0-22-generic. However, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
(Noble) has released many HWE kernel updates since then — your system is
missing 15 point releases worth of updates.
Please perform the following steps to help us narrow this down:
1. Update your system to the latest available kernel:
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
2. Reboot and verify your active kernel version:
uname -r
3. Monitor the system under your normal VictoriaMetrics/Docker write
loads.
If the system experiences another hard crash on the new kernel, please
attach the fresh dmesg or kernel crash log to this bug report. If the
crash does not reoccur after a few days of heavy load, please let us
know so we can close this report.
One additional note: your kernel is tainted by the proprietary ZFS
module ([P]). If you are able to test without ZFS loaded (if feasible),
that would also help isolate whether ZFS plays a role in the crash path.
I am changing the bug status to Incomplete for now, but we will jump
right back in as soon as you can test this latest kernel stack. Thank
you for your patience and help in tracking this down!
