Public bug reported:

[Impact]

On some systems using the OLED panel, AMD found that the default light
mode results in higher power consumption compared to other operating
systems that default to dark mode. This reduces power efficiency and may
impact battery life on affected devices.

[Fix]

https://lore.kernel.org/dri-
devel/[email protected]/

[Test Case]

1) Ensure the system is using the default light mode theme with OLED panel
connected
2) Run standard workload for power measurements (e.g., video playback, web
browsing, idle with desktop visible).
3) Record total system power consumption.
4) Switch to dark mode and perform the same workloads
5) Compare power consumption results

[Where problems could occur]

Devices connected to OLED panels with light mode, run a workload to
trigger power loading.

[Other Info]

AMD suggests adopting dark mode in some way when an OLED panel is
present. The patches is available to detect OLED panels
programmatically, which can be used to implement conditional behavior or
user messaging.
