I *suspect*, since the upstream build system would have replaced the original "git" suffix with something like "git+<hash>", that upstream is making no guarantees of ABI stability between snapshots, but that is just a guess. Upstream might just be not thinking really hard about this yet since this library is in a somewhat "private" directory, not directly in LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
