Also, note that if you install Nvidia drivers, the packaging will
blacklist the nouveau kernel module for you. What you are seeing is the
nouveau X ("DDX") 2D driver loaded, not the nouveau kernel module. This
generally means the nvidia kernel module is not loading, probably for
one of the reasons in my previous comment.
