I just upgraded to Hardy Heron (Linux kernel 2.6.24) and the same
problem is replicated: system boots but fsck complains about certain
disks referenced in /etc/fstab (by uuid) are missing: spesifically the 2
disks on the IT8212 IDE controller (that were also disappearing when I
reported this bug earlier).

Fsck dies with exit status 9.
