I am having the same problem. Travelmate 4670, Intel Centrino Duo and ATI mobility x1400
I can consistantly reproduce this by starting a session from GDM, then opening an xterminal and typing glxinfo. At that point, I can still focus on Windows, but I cannot click on buttons, or drag or scroll. I can still restart X w/ a ctrl-alt- backspace. I can also switch screens with ctrl-alt-F1, F2, etc. The only thing that seems to work is to start up w/out Compiz.
