In this setup you can work around the bug if you select 'Ubuntu on
Wayland' from the login screen. That may have a performance penalty, but
you can avoid that by ensuring the secondary monitor is plugged into the
primary GPU and not the secondary GPU. This means avoiding the laptop's
HDMI port at all costs and using a "USB-C to whatever" cable instead for
the 5K monitor.
