My temporary workaround for this annoying issue is to install Ubuntu on a new physical disk, then copy the installed Ubuntu to my RAID /dev/md* partition(s) using GParted. Shutdown the computer and physically disconnect the new physical disk. Power on the computer still with Ubuntu live disk, and use boot-repair to make sure Ubuntu boots properly now with RAID.
